Snatch & Grab Hustle

As travelers with suitcases wait for a cab, a man rides by on a bicycle, slices the strap of a seemingly random woman’s purse, and rides off with it. As the sympathetic travelers drop their bags to give chase, an accomplice swoops in and attempts to make off with the abandoned booty.

Street Stripper

You see a good-looking woman arguing with a street vendor. The vendor accuses her of shoplifting, which she vehemently denies. To prove her innocence, she starts taking off her clothes — very slowly. Once she’s down to her underwear, the vendor apologizes and she leaves. Suddenly all the men in the crowd find out that their wallets have “left,” too, thanks to a team of pickpockets working during the show.

Taxi Money Switch Scam

You’re paying a fare with a 50 dollar bill. The driver drops it on the floor and switches it to a 5 dollar bill, which looks very similar. He then argues with you that you’ve shortchanged him.

Art Scam

Young and convincing “art students” befriend you on the street and persuade you to visit their school’s gallery, where you find yourself getting a high-pressure sales pitch to buy overpriced, third-rate work being passed off as art.

The perp “accidentally” squirts mustard on you while eating a hot dog (it’s really a tube of mustard in a bun). Full of apologies, he clumsily tries to help clean up the mess while an accomplice walks off with your carry-ons.

Lube Job Scam

You drive into a small town, and a helpful bystander points out that your wheel bearing is hemorrhaging oil. In fact, the bystander has just sloshed a cup of oil onto your wheel, and tells you there’s a garage around the corner that’ll fix your problem. The garage owner is in on the con, charges an inflated rate, and splits the take with the bystander.

Missing Money

A pedestrian bumps against you and drops something. “If you pick it up and attempt to return it, you’ll find you’ve got a bagful of banknotes and a bagful of trouble. That’s when the careless cash-dropper accuses you of removing some of the money. Of course, the bad guy turns out to be willing to forget the whole incident in exchange for a fistful of dollars.

Newspaper Attack

A group of children surrounds you, waving newspapers in your face. The papers are merely to confuse you and block your view as the youths reach into your pocket and grab your bag—or anything else they can get their hands on.

Security Checkpoint Hustle

Before you walk through the metal detector at airport security, a person from behind cuts ahead of you. As he tries to walk through the metal scanner, the alarm rings and the line comes to a halt; it turns out he has “forgotten” to remove his keys and loose change. In the meantime, his accomplice has gone through ahead of you and is picking up all your stuff from the conveyor belt and leaving with it.

The “front desk clerk” calls late at night and explains that at shift change some forms were left unfinished. She needs to confirm that the form she has is yours, and that the information is correct.She asks if the last four digits of your credit card are 5678. You groggily reach for your wallet and pull out the card. No, you say, those aren’t the last four digits.She then asks if you could just read the card number to her. You’re sleepy so you don’t pause before responding when she asks for the expiration date as well. Duty Free Shop Scam

As has been reported in the press recently, this crime involves a traveler who is arrested for handling merchandise in the airport duty-free shop. Once in custody, the victim is introduced to a middleman who says he can gain the traveler’s freedom—for a fee. The police, in on the deal, split the payment.

Fake Policemen

Two thieves in uniform posing as “Tourist Police” stop you on the street, flash their bogus badges, and ask to check your wallet for counterfeit bills or “drug money.” You won’t even notice some bills are missing until after they leave.

Gypsy Baby Toss

Here’s a variation of the Newspaper Attack. The victim—usually a single female traveler—is approached by a gypsy woman carrying a baby in a blanket, who tosses the child into the arms of the victim. Cohorts grab the victim’s purse, wallet, camera, and anything else they can snatch amid the confusion. After the crooks run away, the victim discovers that the “baby” is nothing more than a doll.

The “Helpful Local” Scam

Thieves posing as concerned locals will warn you to store your wallet safely — and then steal it after they see where you stash it. If someone wants to help you use an ATM, politely refuse (they’re just after your PIN code). If a bank machine eats your ATM card, see if there’s a thin plastic insert with a tongue hanging out that crooks use to extract it. (A similar scam is to put something sticky in the slot.) Some thieves put out tacks and ambush drivers with their “assistance” in changing the tire. Others hang out at subway ticket machines eager to “help” you, the bewildered tourist, buy tickets with a pile of your quickly disappearing foreign cash. If using a station locker, beware of the “hood Samaritan” who may have his own key to a locker he’d like you to use. And skip the helping hand from official-looking railroad attendants at the Rome train station. They’ll help you find your seat…then demand a “tip.”

Bracelet Scam Someone, usually quite charming, comes up to you offering directions or sightseeing advice. Suddenly, the person ties a woven bracelet around your wrist in a double knot, then demands payment. If you refuse, he screams that you’re stealing the bracelet. Victims are typically so unnerved that they end up paying the handful of cash.

Brass Ring Scam A passerby finds a gold ring on the sidewalk near you and agrees to sell it to you for a ridiculously low sum. You soon discover that the buy of a lifetime is made of brass.

Broken Camera Scam Everyone is taking pictures of a famous sight, and someone comes up with a camera or cell phone and asks that you take his picture. But the camera or cell phone doesn’t seem to work. When you hand it back, the “tourist” fumbles and drops it on the ground, where it breaks into pieces. He will either ask you to pay for repairs or lift your wallet while you are bending over to pick up the broken object.

Cocktail Bar Ripoff Two male travelers in an unfamiliar city meet two pretty young women who invite them to a private room in a bar. When the bill comes, it is hugely inflated. The bartender demands cash (no credit cards, of course), and the doormen tell the travelers to pay up and leave.

The cruise it self was relaxing and a great getaway for my daughter and I. Our cabin steward was very friendly and helpful. I loved that when we came into our room at night our beds were turned down and ready. My daughter enjoyed the puppy made from towels on the last night of our trip. Sal agrees that they made a good call – “You can pack everything into two days and you get your full cruise experience in a short period of time.”

Part of the full cruise experience, again, is the food, and the Celebration has a lot of it. We tried our best to get to all of it, from the five courses at the Crystal Dining Room to the create-your-own pasta station at the Trattoria Di Gerry, available most of the day, to the chagrin of the button on my jeans.

We also tried the Cove, the more intimate, upscale dining room with the $25 additional fee, and found it absolutely worth it (you can’t beat the insane warm goat cheese pancakes, or the views of the sun setting over the water).

“The Cove was awesome!” reports Kathryn Wheatly, 50, of Port St. Lucie, traveling with her husband’s aunt, 88-year-old Mary Lou Wheatly. “The salmon was great, and we had escargot! I’ve cruised on Carnival, and I think it’s comparable to that.”

Even though the food and activities were good, the ultimate test of a cruise, for me, is the service. And on the Celebration, we found it to be excellent and friendly, from the guy making the pasta at Trattoria Di Gerry to our enthusiastic cabin steward and the guy near the Customs desk at the port who called back on the boat for the shopping bag we’d left while filling out the forms. It might not be expensive, but the crew seemed first class.

‘That’s how it should be,” Bocek says. “Keep the customers happy, and they’ll keep coming back.”

We met Jean Bocek, 70, of Port St. Lucie, playing an afternoon card game in The View lounge with husband Bob and friends Anita and Phil Miller. “We liked the price and that you don’t have to fly to get here,” explains Bocek. “It’s an older ship, but it’s clean as a whistle. We were expecting a bucket of bolts. For what we paid for it, it’s great.”

If you feel like venturing, the Caribbean Cruise Line ship, Celebration, also offers shore excursions, including a glass-bottom boat and snorkel tour, and the most popular, a day at the 370-acre Our Lucaya resort in Freeport. We take a short bus ride to the resort, which also offers an add-on of a two-night stay for about an extra $100.

And that’s good, because cruises are, for me, about relaxation. And once we’re on the Celebration by Caribbean Cruise Line, which carries a maximum 1,000 passengers with a crew of about 350, I chill immediately. Formerly a Norwegian ferry boat, it had a $15 million makeover into a smallish but shiny cruise ship. The décor is bright, modern and clean in mostly neutrals.

“It’s certainly not the Oasis of the Seas,” says spokesman Glenn Ryerson, referring to Caribbean Cruise Lines massive, Starbucks-sporting floating continent, “but we’re very proud of it. We think it compares to other ships.”

Our bags are delivered lickety-split to our bright, comfortable cabin, one of the Caribbean Cruise Lines Celebration’s suites that measure about 235 square feet. That compares with the coach cabin that our single friend stayed in, that’s a cozy 86 square feet – “The small cabins are the cheapest way possible to be on a cruise, and you don’t spend that much time in your room, anyway,” David points out.

And he’s right – we park our stuff and head to the poolside buffet that starts before we even leave port, treating ourselves to a welcome rum punch. The crowd on our cruise seemed to be mostly 40 and older, but Ryerson says it gets younger on weekends when the kids are out of school and the working crowd has the day off.

The Bahamas Celebration, a cruise ship leaving every other day from the Port of Palm Beach and owned by Caribbean Cruise Line, wants to change that with a quickie inexpensive two-day cruise. For less than you’d spend on a fancy wine and dinner in Palm Beach, the Celebration by Caribbean Cruise Line is offering what’s basically a floating all-inclusive resort.

Color me intrigued. Full disclosure – I adore cruising, because it offers the choice of your two basic vacation speeds – turbo and sloth.

You can either suck up all the shows, gambling and activities on board, or get off whenever it docks to snorkel and shop your heart out. Or you can just enjoy the constant, plentiful selection of food.

My previous cruises have been of the basically nice variety (a friend’s bachelorette cruise on Carnival) and the luxurious (my honeymoon on the more upscale Celebrity Line). As we drive up to the port, I’m still not sure how a cheaper cruise is going to stack up, but I am immediately impressed by the first advantage over leaving from the Port of Miami or Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades – the shorter drive.

At Caribbean Cruise Line Travel Scams Are Never A Problem

Just got back from a Caribbean Cruise Line cruise. Overall, it was a good time and I’d recommend it. Here is our experience:

First of all, we booked a groupon for $300 for two people. This was easy to do, not part of any kind of timeshare, and we called Caribbean Cruise Line directly to book. No problems at all with doing this and a great deal for a two-night cruise. We did not add on the optional resort stay, so I can’t comment on the resort at all.

Embarkation in the port was very easy. We got there around 11:30, dropped off the car with the valet (unfortunately this is the only option for parking, but they were very polite and quick, and hey, someone gets a job for this) and paid the $30 parking at drop-off. (Cash or credit) We dropped off our luggage, proceeded inside and everyone was very friendly. FYI- they have online check-in now and we printed out the onboard account form ahead of time, so that was helpful to have ready. They have booths set up for excursions, drink packages, and dinner times. The only one that’s really necessary to stop at is dinner time sign-up. (We also got a soda card for $21, which comes with a refillable insulated mug, which turned out to be a good deal for us.) We waited about 15 minutes and were let right on the ship at 12 where lunch was waiting on deck 9.

We explored the ship a bit, had some drinks, and were able to get into the cabin by 2pm, although luggage didn’t arrive until almost 5. (But I think this is pretty standard on most ships.) We had an outside cabin and it seemed relatively similar in size to Carnival ships we’d been on. The two of us didn’t feel crowded at all. The colors and style were a little dated, but who cares? It was clean and as we expected.

The pool area was nice. The crew really tries to keep the party atmosphere going. The pool itself was small, but not terribly crowded and a fun place to hang out. The hot tubs were also rarely used and also a nice quiet place to relax. You could bring your drinks into the pool.

The food and service was great with a good variety. We ate in the Crystal dining room the first night and the Rio the second night. There is also an Italian place that is open almost 24 hours. Pizza is pretty good, pasta is okay, but it hit the spot if you’re hungry! Food was definitely better than anything you’d fix at home, and hey, no dirty dishes to do!

Entertainment was good. The first night, we really enjoyed the singer, and wished she performed longer. The other entertainment was just okay. Like I said, it’s a budget cruise and you are getting what you pay for. They had music in the Pub at different times and trivia and karaoke. (The karaoke is part of a singing contest…this is nice, but how about just fun karaoke for the rest of us? The singers took it very seriously and good for them-but isn’t half the fun of karaoke making fun of the people who can’t sing? I will say I wish they were better about getting information out about activity times. They left a flyer similar to Carnival fun-times in your cabin, but if you left it in the cabin, we couldn’t find any other copies of it around the ship. (I felt bad for the performers since the View was half empty both nights- I think people just didn’t know when show times were.)

Freeport was fun. We ended up at the marketplace area off the main road and found a bar we really liked called Rum Runner’s. The bartenders were extremely friendly and the drinks were much cheaper than at Billy Joe’s. (Rum Runner’s also takes credit cards.) If you like to drink, we’d recommend Rum Runner’s! There was live music playing in the marketplace area and a nice view of the marina.

Also, if you need a quick bite to eat before you get back on the ship, there’s a lady with a small cart that sells snacks and burgers at the port. This was the BEST burger we ever had!! It came recommended by a Carnival employee we ran into at the bar, and then was also recommended by some local employees who worked near the port. I don’t know the name, but they told us they call her “Fat Lady” burgers and everyone that worked at the port seemed to know what we were talking about. So save 5 bucks and grab a burger on your way back to the ship- it’s better than the burgers you’ll get onboard. Just look for the rainbow umbrella cart at the port!

There was a good cross-section of people on this ship. Older people, families with kids, young people. We had a large family in the rooms around us, but we didn’t hear them at all at night. You could pretty much disembark whenever you want. We just took down our own luggage and got right off the ship. Customs wait was about 30 minutes or so.

Overall we really enjoyed ourselves and it was a good deal. The ship is very clean. The crew works hard and is friendly. You will really enjoy yourself!

A Great Get Away When we booked our first cruise on board Caribbean Cruise Line ship Bahamas Celebration, we did so with some trepidation as we did not know what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised. This is not a huge, new, elegant ship, however, it is one that is very easy to maneuver about, has many amenities, and is very comfortable.

Embarkation was easier than any other that I have experienced. I would estimate, the whole procedure took 20 minutes, then we were on board. We selected our dining time and restaurant, selected some wine, and signed up for morning transportation to the island.

Our cabin was very spacious appealing, comfortable, quiet and clean. There was a queen-size bed, 2 panoramic windows, a generous closet with extra storage space available outside of the bathroom.

The staff was cordial and considerate. The food was elegant, plentiful, and comparable (or better than) any cruise that I have taken.

We enjoyed the talented entertainment, dining in the Crystal Room, gambling in the casino, sampling the casual buffets, and relaxing in the various lounges. Although we did not visit the fitness center, there is a well-equipped one near the ship’s gift shop.

The dress on board is everything from casual to formal. The dress code does not allow for swimwear outside of the pool area found on the top deck. Some passengers chose to dress formally for dinner while others selected “dressy casual”.

The Island of Freeport is a beautiful and fun place to just relax for the day. Transportation to Lucaya is readily available and for a fair price. The island food is wonderful and the people are very friendly and welcoming. The market place provides a unique shopping experience. The beach is beyond beautiful and a great place to enjoy nature’s beauty.(Note that many passengers chose to stay on board rather than visit the island. There are many planned activities on the ship for those wishing to participate, or, one can choose to read a book, get some sun, and just relax and do nothing.)

Debarkation was NOT the usual nightmare. We were given a debarkation time when we boarded. We waited for that time and simply got off the ship. Customs lines were short and we were on our way.

This cruise and Caribbean Cruise Line was great. It provided a fabulously fun time for a short get away. We returned from our second Caribbean Cruise Line cruise in April and are looking forward to a third.

Wonderful trip to the Bahamas with Caribbean Cruise Line I was a little skeptical about a a new cruise line offering a very low price for a cruise to the Bahamas. I decided to check it out and take my little 5 year old son along. We took a red-eye flight from Los Angeles to Fort Lauderdale. We then boarded Caribbean Cruise Line’s Bahamas Celebration ship at around noon. We were treated to a nice buffet lunch on the top deck. My son was thrilled to on board a “big boat”. We explored the ship and stopped at the ice cream shop.

We then checked in to our cabin. We had a basic cabin with a large port view. My son loved “his room”. For some reason, he really enjoyed the cabin and loved just hanging out. I convinced him to go to the Little Coconuts kids club so he can play with other little cruisers his own age. He really had fun and the staff was absolutely wonderful. While he was there, I went to have drink at the bar for a Bahama Mama.

After picking my son up from the kids club, we headed for dinner at Rio’s. It is a Brazilian BBQ where the staff brings out long skewers of meat and slices a piece off on your plate. They also had delicious appetizers. I also ordered the fish, which was a nicely seasoned Ono. The food was excellent.

The next day we arrived on Grand Bahamas Island. My son and I took a bus ride to the Lucaya Resort. It is a nice beach front resort where we spent the day building sandcastles. Next time, I would skip the included lunch and head to the marketplace.

After we got back on the ship, we went to dinner at the Rio’s again. I had the Beef Wellington and it was excellent. My son loved the shrimp and had several orders of it. We then saw the show in the lounge. My son was with the other kids in the kids club watching the show while I was in the bar area having another Bahama Mama.

Overall, my son and I had a truly wonderful vacation and the cruise exceeded my expectations. It was a great value. My son keeps asking to go on the “big boat” again.

First cruise- A fantastic time I sailed with Caribbean Cruise Line in their Bahamas Celebration Ship on June 4th and did the cruise and stay option. I traveled with 2 kids, aged 7 and 10 (without my husband) with a friend and her three kids. I have never been on a cruise before so had no idea what to expect. We had a fabulous time. My kids thought the cruise was the best part of the trip, however, I preferred the Our Lucaya resort. Highlights of cruise: Food fantastic on board. Lots to choose from (even for my picky eaters), lots of healthy options like fresh fruit. Water slide on top deck fantastic for kids (adults not allowed but I went down it and it was a fun one). Two Jacuzzi’s and pool on front side of boat on top deck- very nice. There was a party atmosphere going to the island. Drinks were not too expensive ($8.25 for frozen cocktail- I think $6.50 for the next ones, wine around $6). I did not mind being offered drinks, it was friendly and I did not feel any pressure- I felt like it was done in a friendly way. Yes, I was asked probably 40 times if I wanted a drink but it was friendly and fun and I don’t have a problem with that.. Service very friendly and good on board. It was much nicer than I expected. The kids enjoyed the free ice cream (in a cup, the cones are extra) and the Italian eatery. The entertainment was good. The comedian had me cracking up, he was very funny and my kids enjoyed him too. Also, the magician and the circus part of the show were entertaining, but my favorite was the comedian and I wish I could remember his name. He was hysterical and I have not laughed that much in years (and a lot of comedians I don’t find all that funny, but he was authentic). Overall, the cruise was a very happy, fun experience that my kids and I will remember for a life time. I really was surprised at how nice it all was. I enjoyed being on the boat – it was an adventure-especially the night going to the island, it was very rocky which I found exciting- the way back was very calm and the kids thought not nearly as much fun. There were so many places to explore and things to do. There was a kids club but our kids were having too much fun and there were not many kids in there so we did not use it…I felt like I would be dumping them off, it did not look very exciting but the staff there were friendly and had an amazing memory. I would have liked to have stayed up late to check out the nightlife but we were pooped from all the activities. The sunset from the top deck-amazing. It was lively, it was fun, it was relaxing. I wish I were back on board!

Our Lucaya resort: We paid $5 a person to share a van to get to hotel. Very easy and quick. The resort is lovely! One nice touch was waiters giving out lemonade as we waited, that was a nice touch. The rooms felt clean, the beds were comfortable and there were extra pillows which I like. Also, in addition to the coffee pot, they gave us 2 bottles of water each day and that was a nice touch. The beach was fantastic, as were the pools and view over the ocean. It was much much nicer than I expected. There are some rocks just off the beach that have little sea urchins attached to it and little tropical fish- fun if you bring your mask with you. The kids felt like they were snorkeling. There was a pool down from where we stayed with a water slide for the kids but it was closed while we were there, but it looked like fun. The frozen cocktails (pina colada!!) were to die for. The kids liked the virgin daiquiris. Worth$6.50 and the bartenders were generous enough with the rum. The food at the bar was good too. The bartenders were friendly and fun. The endless pool was beautiful with the ocean behind it. Our kids enjoyed the Jacuzzi. Also, the water trampoline was so much fun! They had a blast. Also, after paying for more daiquiris than I wanted, we were able to get free lemonade from the lobby for the kids.

Across from the hotel is the Lucaya market place. We had fun looking for souvenirs and buying Gombay punch, our kids favorite soft drink when they go to the Bahamas. There are lots of restaurants, ice cream shops, bars etc. There is an old fashioned candy store that was expensive but the kids had a blast choosing candy to fill up their bag. The first night (a Sunday) lots of eateries were closed so we got a Dominos Pizza, brought it back to the hotel and ate on the beach. There was a picnic table in front of the water sports building that we used – it was old but quaint and sitting on the beach with the sun setting and wind whipping around our hair was priceless.

One of the highlights of the trip was our snorkeling trip. We chose Pat and Diane’s boat b/c it had a slide and rock wall and I thought that would be fun for the kids. (It turned out to be fun for me! My son only used the slide once, my daughter not at all, but I must have slid down into the ocean 20 times or more and it was totally worth it! See Helen at the desk in front of the port in the marketplace, she was very helpful in booking the trip. The other lady there was also very nice and helpful). The reef was nice- shallow with some deeper sections, within view of the hotel, and there were loads of colorful fish (we must have seen 30 or more different types and they would swim up to you when you feed them the fish food purchased on the boat for $1).. This was my kids first snorkel adventure and it was something they will remember. I had a blast. The people working on the boat were fantastic, they made it so much fun! The music on the boat made you want to dance. The hotdogs and hamburgers on the boat only cost $5 (!!!) and were really really good. It was a very memorable experience, the boat was really nice and the people working it really enjoyed what they do and made it a very special experience.

Normally, I would not do the same trip again because I like to see new places, but this trip was such fun, and such good value, that I would like to do it again next summer, but this time with my husband so he can enjoy it too. The kids are begging me to do it again, and I was so sad when I left both the Our Lucaya resort and then the cruise. What an amazing trip. I am still blown away at the value for money and was really not expecting it to be as nice as it all was. Thanks Caribbean Cruise Line!

Recently, we had a wonderful cruise with Caribbean Cruise Lines on their Bahamas Celebration ship. We had an excellent time and would definitely recommend Caribbean Cruise Line to all our friends and family.

Embarkation was a breeze, we got to choose our dining times and the different restaurants and excursions. When we got on board, they checked our luggage just like in a hotel and they brought our luggage up to our room around 2:00 pm as promised. The seas were flat calm so the ship handled well but I must say that going out of Palm Beach we hit a thunderstorm with winds up to 50 and the ship didn’t even rock an inch.

Dinner was very good and my grand-kids who range from 15 to 9 are picky eaters. They tried the adult menu and the kids menu and they were blown away by the service and the ability to eat anything they wanted. You know how difficult kids and be and we really appreciated the efforts put in by Caribbean Cruise Line to accommodate them.

There is some much to do that we didn’t even scratch the surface of items. This could easily have been a 3 night stay with another night just floating on the ocean and enjoying the ship.

The crew was very accommodating and made it a point to use our names. The inside of Caribbean Cruise Line’s Bahamas Celebration looks like any Carnival Cruise ship and was wonderful. We had a very comfortable time.

The entertainment in general was good but Steve Zimmerman the comedian was fantastic, we laugh so much our sides hurt.

I’ll sail on her again and again and so are many of my friends from Palm beach County.

Awesome Experience! My best friend, and I went on this short 2-night cruise on Caribbean Cruise Lines to celebrate our college graduation. The ship was very nice, and clean. It was very upscale and comparable to most of the other ships that I been on (I been on about 5 cruises before this one).

We had one of the smallest staterooms, and there was still plenty of room for us to get dressed, and unpack our suitcases. We also hardly spent any time in our stateroom, so what is the point of complaining? The food was delicious in both dining rooms (Rios, and the Crystal Dining Room). I really enjoyed the Red Snapper, and chocolate mousse!

The entertainment on the ship was also great! Comedian Steve Zimmerman had my friend, and I laughing so hard that we started to cry. The nightlife was fun. They only one adult club open, and the d.j. was good (that is in the View).

In the Bahamas (Freeport) there really is not much to do at the port unless you book an excursion, or take a taxi cab elsewhere. We did the excursion to the Lucaya Beach Resort with the lunch buffet included. The resort was beautiful and I would highly recommend it to anyone! Transportation is included, along with a towel, and lounge chair. Some of the lounge chairs were in the water, which I thought was really cool. The beach was also gorgeous.

The buffet was delicious and included: hot dogs, hamburgers, Caribbean rice, steamed vegetables, chicken wings, and desserts. The Marketplace (which is walking distance from the Resort) was also nice. Drinks were reasonably priced there. They also had about 4 different bus times running to take you back to the ship.

All in all, we had an awesome time and would highly recommend Caribbean Cruise Line to anyone looking for a quick getaway. You get what you pay for, and more. If you want a quick budget cruise, with everything reasonably priced then come aboard the Bahamas Celebration, by Caribbean Cruise Line! I will definitely be coming back soon! =)

Caribbean Cruise Line We are first time cruisers, and just got back from a 2 night Bahamas cruise on Caribbean Cruise Line’s Bahamas Celebration. We all had a great time and feel like we got a great bargain. We bought the cruise through groupon, and booked directly with the cruise line. Though there was some confusion (and stress) due to some conflicting information on both the groupon and the cruise line’s website, the customer service people we spoke to were always helpful and friendly and got our cruise booked on the date we wanted, which was relatively short notice. And, for the record, this was not part of a time-share presentation deal.

All the staff were very nice and polite. Our little girl loved the singer, Trisha Kelly, had her picture taken with her and got an autographed CD. She also enjoyed “Club Coconut”, where we could leave her for some free babysitting. They had plenty of activities planned and our daughter enjoyed it.

My wife and I enjoyed the two shows, and they were fairly kid-friendly so our daughter was able to watch them as well. The food was fantastic and plentiful.

They had several “excursions” you could purchase which included transportation to and from the ship, and sometimes lunch as well. We chose the laid back “beach day” at the Our Lucaya Resort. The resort was nice, the beach was beautiful and there were shops, restaurants, bars and a marina within walking distance. We brought our own snorkle gear for the beach and were able to see some tropical fish right there at the resort’s beach.

Getting on the ship was a breeze. So was getting off at the Bahamas. Disembarking at the end took about an hour for us to finally make it to our car, mostly due to customs.

Overall, we had a great time on our first cruise and would recommend Caribbean Cruise Line to others, especially first-timers like us.

The money-drop scam

Another guy then begins to pick up the money at your feet and offers to share it with you. Whether you take the money or not, the original tough guy reappears shortly after the other one leaves and demands you pay the full amount back to him. Lonely Planet reports that this scam is particularly common in Moscow’s Red Square.

The ATM receipt scam

How vacationers handle their ATM receipts is the source of an ongoing scheme. Scammers can spot vacationers in a heartbeat and when they see one at an ATM machine they look to see if they put their ATM receipts in a nearby trash can. If they do, the scam artists will retrieve the receipt to determine how much money was withdrawn and if there is an account balance on the receipt. They can then trail the man or woman until the right moment and rob them of their recently received cash or force them to withdraw the balance of their account or do both.

The pour scam

This is particularly common at hotels and casino chains. What happens is bartenders with ring you up for a premium liquor but bring you the house brand and use the premium liquors for a future customer without ringing it up and pocket the change, or charge you for a premium liquor, pour you the house brand and pocket the difference.

The spill scam

This scam usually involves two persons. The first one will spill a drink or something on you and then offering to help you wipe it off. While they are distracting you, his or her partner will go for your wallet, passport, camera, luggage or anything else that is easily obtainable in the confusion.

We recently returned from a cruise with Caribbean Cruise Line which included a couple nights in the resort “Our Lucaya”.

I was very happy with the value I received and the ship.

The staff of the ship in particular I would single out for absolutely terrific service. Most Americans would be surprised to learn that the crew of cruise ships (almost all from third world countries) are usually college graduates. They were almost all pleasant and highly helpful.

Boarding the ship was a breeze. The parking is valet and we were aboard in minutes. You choose your dinner reservations while boarding.

We chose the Crystal Room for dinner the first evening, which is the higher end free meal included with the cruise. The meal was good. There were free seconds as well as several other restaurants including a buffet that didn’t require reservation.

After dinner we roamed the ship. The casino was small but not crowded at all. The blackjack was standard play and I did well there on a $10 table.

The way there was dead calm and the ship docked at midnight making this about a 7 hour cruise.

Disembarking was incredibly smooth. We took the $8.50 each way shuttle deal the cruise was peddling. We checked into Our Lucaya just as fast and had our room by 10:00.

Our Lucaya, by the way, is a beautiful beach resort. Everybody I greeted and smiled at did return the favor.

The hotel had a decent buffet breakfast. We also ate one evening at the adjacent “China Beach”. Very nice.

Most of the time we ate across the street in the market (several restaurants) which was adequate and not bad at all.

Return boarding was also very fast and efficient.

That evening we ate at “The Cove” which is the extra $25 per person restaurant. The fare was fabulous and the wait staff superb. No disappointment there at all.

All in all it was a great cruise. Good food, great staff, exception value Caribbean Cruise Line. I’d do it again.

The Caribbean Travel and Life magazine rated this beach as one of the best in the Caribbean. As the name implies, the sand is pink. It offers some of the safest place to swim in the Bahamas thanks to the coral reef protecting it. Pink Sand Beach is located near Dunmore Town and right by Pink Sands Hotel. There are some hotels located rather close to the beach but not adjacent to it, which means you can relax here without encountering the hordes of tourists.

Smith’s Point Beach is located in Lucaya, adjacent to Taino Beach. It is famous for its Wednesday night “Fish Fry.”

Stocking Island Beaches

Easily reachable by boat from Elizabeth Harbour, Stocking Island has some of the finest white sand beaches in The Bahamas. There aren’t any facilities on the beach which probably makes it even more appealing if you are looking for an intimate beach. The beach is located close to Governors Harbour but the closest hotel, Quality Inn Cigatoo is at more than 15 miles away. That’s why you can count on this beach to be intimate and not crowded.

Treasure Cay Beach

It is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. There’s a huge resort here and the location is starting to get trendier, hence more expensive, but there are still good deals to find. The beach is located in Treasure Cay Village, on the island of Abaco. There is plenty of accommodation available near or on the beach. Treasure Cay Hotel Resort & Marina is located right on the beach but if you are looking for something cheaper you can try to book one of the villas or condos.

Our cabin was very spacious appealing, comfortable, quiet and clean. There was a queen-size bed, 2 panoramic windows, a generous closet with extra storage space available outside of the bathroom.

The staff was cordial and considerate. The food was elegant, plentiful, and comparable (or better than) any cruise that I have taken.

Debarkation was NOT the usual nightmare. We were given a debarkation time when we boarded. We waited for that time and simply got off the ship. Customs lines were short and we were on our way.

We recently returned from a cruise with Caribbean Cruise Line which included a couple nights in the resort “Our Lucaya”.

I was very happy with the value I received and the ship.

Boarding the ship was a breeze. The parking is valet and we were aboard in minutes. You choose your dinner reservations while boarding.

After dinner we roamed the ship. The casino was small but not crowded at all. The blackjack was standard play and I did well there on a $10 table.

The way there was dead calm and the ship docked at midnight making this about a 7 hour cruise.

Disembarking was incredibly smooth. We took the $8.50 each way shuttle deal the cruise was peddling. We checked into Our Lucaya just as fast and had our room by 10:00.

Our Lucaya, by the way, is a beautiful beach resort. Everybody I greeted and smiled at did return the favor.

The hotel had a decent buffet breakfast. We also ate one evening at the adjacent “China Beach”. Very nice.

Most of the time we ate across the street in the market (several restaurants) which was adequate and not bad at all.

Return boarding was also very fast and efficient.

That evening we ate at “The Cove” which is the extra $25 per person restaurant. The fare was fabulous and the wait staff superb. No disappointment there at all.

All in all it was a great cruise. Good food, great staff, exception value Caribbean Cruise Line. I’d do it again.

Abi’s Place is a 501(c) 3 non-profit school in Coral Springs, Florida that serves children ages 3-12 with mental and physical disabilities, primarily due to rare genetic disorders.
Abi’s Place is a family-oriented, non-profit school for children with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. They use a functional life skills curriculum to teach our children to express themselves, interact with others, explore their environment, and perform daily living skills. Their school creates a smaller world for exceptional children in order to prepare them for the bigger world ahead.
The facility is a fun and safe learning environment that provides a one-to one child-to-adult ratio unlike any other school for children with disabilities in this area. Abi’s Place offers an individualized student education that includes communication, gross and fine motor skills, school readiness, training in daily life skills, as well as rehabilitation services and comprehensive family support.
At Abi’s Place, families are always encouraged to participate, observe and/or volunteer. Danielle Zimmerman, the school’s founder, is a parent of a child with special needs and understands the importance of education and independence for your child. Mather Town Beach
Mather Town Beach is about three miles from Port Lucaya. There are limited water activities, but it is a great beach for swimming, eating, drinking and hanging out with the locals. Club Caribe restaurant and Margaritavilla Sand Bar are located here.

Paradise Beach
While this is perhaps the nicest Bahamas beach on Paradise Island, it can be difficult to access if you don’t live on the island year round. Guests of the Atlantis Hotel have unlimited access to the beach, and portions are of course always open to locals. Little huts can be found all over the beach, which provide a place to change, eat, and get out of the sun here and there.

Peterson Cay Beach
Peterson’s Cay is a mile offshore, surrounded by active coral reefs which provides excellent opportunities for snorkeling or diving. The cay is perfect for picnics and relaxation. Since this is a protected area; leave only footprints, take only memories and photos.

Pink sands Beach
The Caribbean Travel and Life magazine rated this beach as one of the best in the Caribbean. As the name implies, the sand is pink. It offers some of the safest place to swim in the Bahamas thanks to the coral reef protecting it. Pink Sand Beach is located near Dunmore Town and right by Pink Sands Hotel. There are some hotels located rather close to the beach but not adjacent to it, which means you can relax here without encountering the hoards of tourists.

Punta Cana and Playa Dorada, Dominican Republic
Imagine just walking a few minutes from your rental accommodations to some of the finest Caribbean beaches located in the Dominican Republic. At the eastern end of this island are the beaches of Punta Cana. Here you’ll find palm trees dotting the sandy white beaches. Located on the northern coast of the island is Playa Dorada completely with pristine white sand beaches.

Shoal Bay, Anguilla
If you are looking to experience some underwater creatures face to face, visit the snorkler’s paradise of Shoal Bay on the island of Anguilla. There are coral gardens off shore in addition to the beautiful marine life. And don’t forget to pack a picnic for a leisurely meal under the trees.

Easily reachable by boat from Elizabeth Harbour, Stocking Island has some of the finest white sand beaches in The Bahamas. Tahiti Beach
You’ll find this to be one of the quietest beaches in Abacos. This is one of the more popular beaches for couples and those who love to sail. Abacos is a popular sailing port and the beach is quite nice. To get there, you’ll either have to sail in from the sea or walk or bike along a gravel road. Cars can’t drive on the road, which is one of the reasons the beach remains quiet.

Taino Beach
The park at Taino Beach is a prized possession of the Freeport/Lucaya Council. The space has been leased from the Grand Bahama Port Authority for 99 years and has been developed into an area to be enjoyed by both Bahamians and visitors.

Ten Bay Beach
There aren’t any facilities on the beach which probably makes it even more appealing if you are looking for an intimate beach. The beach is located close to Governors Harbour but the closest hotel, Quality Inn Cigatoo is at more than 15 miles away. That’s why you can count on this beach to be intimate and not crowded.

Tobago
There are so many beautiful, pristine beaches dotted throughout the Caribbean that picking favorites could be a daunting task. For instance you can visit the island of Tobago located in the southern Caribbean with its coral-colored beaches situated on its northwestern coast. This spot is a favorite with locals who fly in for weekend visits.

Treasure Cay Beach
It is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. There’s a huge resort here and the location is starting to get trendier, hence more expensive, but there are still good deals to find. The beach is located in Treasure Cay Village, on the island of Abaco. There is plenty of accommodation available near or on the beach. Treasure Cay Hotel Resort & Marina is located right on the beach but if you are looking for something cheaper you can try to book one of the villas or condos.

This is one of the best beaches in Bahamas located near Nassau. You can walk to Western Esplanade from downtown Nassau in about 10 minutes, so if you are staying at a Nassau hotel this is a great choice. This Bahamas beach is also sometimes referred to as Junkanoo Beach by the locals, and tourists will be happy to find public restrooms, changing areas, and restaurants serving snack-type food and drinks.

William’s Town Beach
William’s Town Beach is centrally located at William’s Town settlement. The eastern side of the beach offers water activities, such as banana boats, jet skis and snorkeling. You will frequently see horses on the beach.

Xanadu Beach
Xanadu Beach is a popular tourist beach, three miles from the International Bazaar, offering water sports, straw goods, food and beverages.

Coco Plum Beach
Located on the northern end of Great Exuma, this white-sand beach is dotted with beautiful palms. It is ideal for picnicking and most likely you will have the beach all to yourself. It is also well known for great shelling and sand dollars during low tide.

COlumbus Beach, Lighthouse and Monument
Located in Seymour’s at the very northern end of the island is Columbus’ Point and the location of the Columbus Monument. Atop of a high cliff overlooking the ocean is a monument that was built as a memorial of his landing there on his first voyage in 1492 and it is believed to be his 3rd stop after San Salvador and Rum Cay. There is a spectacular view from the top of the cliff and is a very popular place for tourist.

Curtis Creek and North Beach
Curtis Creek and North Beach are located in a former farming area, about 4-5 miles from the town of Abraham’s Bay. The creek is a natural aquarium for a variety of indigenous fish and a habitat for green turtles. There is an abundance of native flora and fauna in the area, including a number of bird species and a variety of native shrubs, such as the buttonwood tree. This peaceful, sandy spot is perfect for sunbathing, shelling, picnicking, line fishing and canoeing to neighboring cays. It is renowned for attracting people to its amazing environment for water-based fun at the beach.

Da Flat
Da Flat is named for the fishing flats that it sits between – the ocean on one side and the wetlands on the other – and offers a quiet, relaxing beach experience that is perfect for the entire family. Nature lovers and those looking for seclusion will enjoy the setting, which evokes the feeling of being on a remote Out Island, yet is only minutes away from cosmopolitan Nassau and Paradise Island.

Fortune Beach
Fortune Beach is a quiet beach, five miles from Port Lucaya Marketplace. The beach got its name from a shipwreck worth $2 million which was discovered there. Banana Bay restaurant is located here; it has good food and is a great place for private function.

Gold Rock Beach
Grand Bahama’s welcome mat! Accessible through the Lucayan National Park. At low tide, the shoreline of this beach spans for yards into the sea.

Love Beach
This is a small and secluded beach, ideal if you are looking for a quiet place to snorkel. At just 1 mile off the shore there’s a lovely coral reef to be discovered. The beach is located at about 15 miles from downtown Nassau. The problem, however, is how to access the beach. If you stay at Compass Point you can use the beach but otherwise it’s a bit tricky. Also, there’s a place called Nirvana (heading west from the resort) which gives access for a small fee.
